Exchange 2003 Email Address Search

First post is a very simple one, but something I’m always forgetting! This could be considered more of a reference point for me but anyway!

Ever get an email address request for your organisation, go to add it and your told it already exists? Then, you can’t find it as it is hidden away as an alias or public folder address etc?

Sure fire way to sort this, on your exchange server, open AD, right click your domain/forest, click find.

Change the drop down tab to custom, then select the advanced tab, you should see the below, you’re going to enter an LDAP query.

AD Custom Search

The form of the query is

proxyAddresses=smtp:example@yourdomain.ie

Once you enter this, and hit Find Now, AD will return the exact location associated with the address.
